Corpse

An elderly woman, a former teacher with a passion for Dante’s Divine Comedy, reports the discovery of a corpse in an alley she traverss at night on her way to the cemetery, where her husband is buried. She talks about her habit of drinking, watching horror films, and the need to visit her husband’s grave even at night. During her deposition, the woman exhibits visual and olfactory hallucinations and selfharming behavior, and also suffers from a malaise that leads to fainting. She is revived by paramedics. Once recovered, she intensifies her delusional behaviors, and it is revealed that the corpse does not exist and that she is actually speaking to a psychiatrist. Concluding what is in reality a therapy session, the doctor diagnoses her with Cotard’s syndrome, the condition that has led her to believe she is dead.
