The Project
Common strategies to guarantee the inclusion of deaf students in University are still absent. ISENSE aims at proposing a long-term sustainable approach to reduce the barriers linked to education to enhance both the motivation of deaf students in attending university and the skills of university staff in communicating with them. Within this aim, we exploit innovative technologies, such as augmented and virtual reality and holography, to create a high-performing digital education ecosystem.
Blue Cinema TV for ISENSE
Blue Cinema TV is the technical leader of Work Package 2 (WP2) within the SLAATE project – Sign Language in Augmentative Alternative Technical 3D Environment. In partnership with Universität Klagenfurt, the WP2 lead institution, it is contributing to the development of two innovative interactive experiences:
– An onsite holographic installation, based on European Patent No. 2965172 and the registered European trademark OLOS®.
– An online interactive installation, available for mobile devices and PCs, based on Patent No. 102021000008852 and the registered trademark I-CINEMA®.
The protagonists and storytellers of both experiences are Deaf signers, who appear respectively as life-size holographic figures and as virtual characters. The aim is to provide useful and constantly updated information to Deaf and hard-of-hearing students, as well as prospective students, regarding university services offered by the project’s international partners. The experiences are available in the (signed and spoken) languages of the five participating countries, as well as in English, representing a vital contribution to fostering inclusion and accessibility.
