When asked in the documentary “An Immersive Discovery” what the Falvaterra Caves represent for him, Lamberto Ferri Ricchi replies, with slightly teary eyes and a sense of remembrance, that they are a continuum. Perhaps there is no better definition: these caves are a journey into the depths of the earth that has been ongoing for millennia. The waters that flow through them seem to know no interruption: originating from the karst basins of Mount Lamia, they first settle in the Pastena Caves, which represent the swallow hole, before continuing to the Falvaterra Caves, which are located at the resurgence of these underground waters.
This story, which continues relentlessly, has not only etched its mark on the rock but has also shaped the curiosity and souls of thousands of people who have had the opportunity to discover and visit the Falvaterra Caves. The adventure of Lamberto Ferri Ricchi, along with his speleo-diving group and his wife Michela Manzi, could not be forgotten; it needed to be told.
It was possible to carry out a project that allows anyone who wishes to embark on an “immersive discovery” thanks to the “Immersive Caves” project, winner of the Lazio Region’s Public Notice for the “Valorisation of Cultural Places 2021“.
Through our innovative patented methodologies, it has been possible to create interactive valorization interventions using immersive technologies in one of the most suggestive places in Lazio: the Falvaterra Caves and Rio Obaco Natural Monument.
The work for the realization of the project focused mainly on three fundamental aspects:
HI® – HUMAN INTERFACE Installation: Inside the Caves Visitor Center, a new interactive installation has been installed featuring the full-body virtual character of the speleo-diver Michela Manzi, who will guide visitors on a discovery of the history of the Caves and the territory of the Falvaterra Caves and Rio Obaco Natural Monument, offering useful information to make the visiting experience unforgettable.
Immersive interactive multisensory path realized using the patented methodology linked to the European brand OLOS®: At the main entrance of the Caves, visitors can fully immerse themselves in the history and beauty of the place thanks to a new multisensory path, which allows them to take a journey through time, back to the prehistoric times of the place. Sounds, lights, holographic images, animations and video projections related to the hypogeal world create a unique and engaging experience.
Interactive documentary film realized using the patented I-CINEMA® methodology: To further deepen the knowledge of the Falvaterra Caves and Rio Obaco Natural Monument, it is possible to watch the documentary, where there are specific in-depth sections and additional viewing functionalities, with a view to linguistic and sensory accessibility. The audiovisual production, entitled “An Immersive Discovery”, tells a captivating story, while at the same time retracing in detail the moments that led to the discovery of the Caves and the stories linked to the place, thanks also to exclusive interviews with the real protagonists of these adventures. The documentary can be viewed on smartphones and tablets on Vimeo, and on PCs on the official website, where it is possible to delve deeper into the different contents with interviews with the protagonists of the story.
Thanks to the delivery of the installations, the “Immersive Caves” project has achieved its goal of enhancing and making accessible one of the most fascinating natural heritage sites in Lazio. At the Falvaterra Caves and Rio Obaco Natural Monument, it is now possible to immerse visitors from all over the world in a unique experience.
